Vumbura Plains

Situated in Vumbura, a huge private concession that borders the Moremi Game Reserve within the Okavango Delta, Vumbura Camp is one of Botswana's most impressive properties. Designed by Sylvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, who also designed Mombo, Jao and North Island in the Seychelles, the camp itself is spectacular.

Split into 2 main camps, North and South, Vumbura has a total of 14 rooms all raised on wooden platforms and connected by a raised wooden walkway throughout both camps. Each villa has its own private pool, an outdoor decking area complete with your own sala for afternoon naps, indoor and outdoor showers and their very own fire pits. The rooms themselves are attractive taught canvas tents with huge four poster beds draped in mosquito netting, lounge areas with great views out over the plains and the most attractive bathrooms in any of the Wilderness camps. They are enormous, measuring 88 sq metres for the bedroom alone. The main dining, lounge and communal area is also raised off the ground, tucked away beneath a canopy of shady, indigenous trees with a wonderful vista across the floodplains and beyond.

For years the Vumbura Concession was all about Little Vumbura. The concession got a reputation for housing one of Botswana’s best camps and having an immense concentration of game. So they built Vumbura Plains. It is certainly bigger and for those of us who want luxury safari then this lodge will not let you down. But for those of us who want more of a safari focussed trip than a luxurious hospitality lodge then Little Vumbura is the better option. The truth is that we find Vumbura Plains a little too big, in size and to an extent in price. However the game is VERY good and the rooms, complete with virtually everything you could ever need, are fantastic. So if you want luxury and have the budget then it is a good option…but if you can get into Little Vumbura that is our choice!
