Duba Plains - Our View With more lion than pretty much anywhere and the fact that diurnal hunting is pretty much guaranteed at Duba, any safari connoisseur will tell you that that this camp is an exceptionally rare little gem; the lion viewing here is just outstanding and is regularly ballistic. Duba is a firm favorite amongst the office here - we regard it, without any doubt, as one of Africa’s finest small camps.
Leave the lion viewing aside and you have a beautiful small camp that Wilderness Safaris should be very proud of. As you may have guessed already, we love Duba…..we absolutely LOVE Duba!

The camp is spread across the front of a large floodplain, hidden amongst a canopy of indigenous trees. Each safari tent is raised on wooden platforms with decking areas looking over the hippos munching through the flooded plains in front. Each has en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers Joined together by sand paths cutting through the bush, Duba has a very intimate feel with a small lounge and dining area and a fire place set out in front of the camp to explore the African skies after dinner. The separate swimming pool and hide offer an often much needed rest bite fro the searing African sun. The main attraction of Duba however is the interaction between its resident lion prides and huge herd of buffalo. The buffalo number approximately 1,200 and the lion number 75, split between three prides. The ferociousness of game drives can overwhelm a hardened safari enthusiast - these lions hunt regularly, between safari vehicles during the day. They are some of the most brutal diurnal hunters in Africa…..but they do not always come out best!
