Other Countries that combine easily with Botswana

Botswana is a fascinating country whose diversity of attractions, game and sheer beauty is enough to satisfy the most hardened of all travellers; itineraries for weeks on end can be designed solely within Botswana itself but the country is landlocked, surrounded on all sides by Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa.

A two hour flight from Maun in the South of the Delta however reaches Maputo, the capital of Mozambique and the gateway to some of the most stunning beaches on the African Coast.

Travel on up the coast and before long Tanzania and Zanzibar beckon, as intriguing as ever, invoking dreams of fairy tale islands, of Arabian nights, of romance and of spirits dwelling among the ruins of its elusive history.

A two hour flight South and travellers reach Cape Town, without doubt one of the most beautiful cities in the world (with fantastic beaches and seering weather around Christmas time); it seems crazy to be so close and not consider visiting South Africa for a weekend.

Closer to home and the raw safari parks of Zambia or Zimbabwe offer yet more choices and to the West, the scenic beauty of Namibia and the Sossusvlei Sand Dunes adds another choice.

Just off the Mozambique Coast lies Mauritius, an island whose forests and mountains rise verdant and lush from the midst of the Indian Ocean; this is an island for absolute relaxation amongst visionary natural landscapes and for relishing some of the most sophisticated beach hotels in the world.

Those who are prepared to fly for longer open up the Seychelles; a group of islands unique by a thousand miles that play host to some of the worlds most luxurious private islands. Formed on the whole from coral atolls in startlingly clear seas, the Seychelles are worlds apart, mostly unpopulated but for the single small lodge that overlooks their clear coral sands.

The reality is that Botswana is surrounded by fascinating places to visit and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world are merely a short flight away.
